6. Medical Review
The Medical check takes place on the same day as the Security Interview so that you will only need to visit us once again in person after your virtual Assessment Centre.
These two stages will take place on site at Heathrow, however, the Medical Review will be conducted by Duradiamond Healthcare. They are an occupational health third party company.
The short 30-minute check where Duradiamond will review your hearing, colour vision, mobility and blood pressure will determine whether you meet the medical requirements of the Security Officer role.
Medical Requirements
There are a number of requirements for the Security Officer role to ensure that our colleagues are able to implement security controls. These include:
- With or without glasses or contact lenses, be able to read correctly a vehicle number plate at 23 metres distance and be able to read labels on bottles of spirits and aerosols at a distance of between 30-50 centimetres.
- Have 100% colour perception to use colour x-ray equipment and to check passes with colour codes.
- With or without an aid, be able to hear radio and telephone communications, audio signals emitted by security equipment, and an average conversational human voice at a distance of two and a half metres in a quiet room.
- Be physically fit to cope with long periods of physical activity, including standing, sitting, bending, walking and to have full hand dexterity. We will also check your blood pressure.
- Be free from dependence on alcohol or illegal substances; colleagues taking prescribed drugs should be considered on an individual basis to ensure that their ability to undertake their duties would not be adversely affected.
In most cases you will find out during the examination whether you meet these requirements. In some cases you may be referred to your GP for a further review.
