9. Day One & Beyond

9. Day One & Beyond

You have successfully passed the referencing and vetting process and are now ready to join us as a Security Officer –Congratulations!

Your journey will start with a big welcome and introduction to our airport. That is when you’ll also collect your Airside ID Pass from the team at the ID centre. (Remember to bring your CRC certificate with you).

What waits for you here are six weeks of a full-time training programme which includes learning at our Security Training facility, Security Central, that is near to where you had you Medical. This is followed by on the job training in our Terminals.

During this time you could be covering both early and late shifts. More information will be provided to you nearer your start date.

Over the course of these six weeks you will receive coaching from our team of professional certified aviation security trainers.

We will give you all the necessary knowledge to ensure you are fully equipped to go on to become a successful Security Officer.

Throughout the training period you will be tested on what you have learnt, including a classroom learning assessment, Bag and Body searching and at the end of your training you will complete the National X-Ray Competency Test (NXCT).

Once all the tests have been passed you will be formally signed off as a Security Officer.

Due to the nature of the training at Heathrow, you will need to attend this on a full-time basis, even if you will be working on a part time roster, once the training is complete. This could be on either early or late shifts. Once your training has been completed and you are formally signed off, you will then begin your roster.

We have worked hard to make sure we protect our colleagues as much as possible during the current COVID-19 pandemic and have followed all the government advice to make sure that we are a COVID secure workplace. This has included but not limited to providing face coverings, gloves, Perspex screens and access to hand sanitiser stations. Although we have worked hard to reduce the amount of contact with people where possible, there are still aspects of the security role which requires contact with people such as conducting body and bag searches.

Staff Parking at Heathrow

Heathrow is committed to a sustainable future.  With an expanding airport, we’re actively looking to reduce the number of cars on the roads around Heathrow and reduce the number of colleague car trips.

You’ll find plenty of information here on car alternatives:  https://www.heathrow.com/company/team-heathrow/commuting-to-heathrow

If you’re unable to find another way to travel, then we will look to allocate car parking spaces once you’ve joined us, based on availability.
